Homes connected to their natural surroundings
Río is part of La Gran Reserva, a housing development in Pereira that settles on the steep slopes of the Coffee Region, among stands of guadua bamboo. The sloping terrain —worked with, not against— is the condition that orders the project.
The housing towers sit on stepped platforms held by retaining walls, which fit the building to the slope of the lot without flattening the topography.
The urban design was adjusted to the slope: the parking areas were inclined to reduce the height of the retaining walls, and the access ramps to the towers were eased, resolving circulation on difficult terrain.
The second social-housing project of the complex, Río shares with La Gran Reserva a commitment to affordable housing integrated into its natural surroundings, with the guadua forest as a permanent backdrop.
From the slope to the project
Río's first fact is not a number of homes but a slope: the guadua-covered hillside on which La Gran Reserva sits in Pereira. The project was drawn by stepping platforms and retaining walls to set the towers down without flattening the terrain, and by adjusting the urban design —inclined parking, gentler ramps— until the topography stopped being an obstacle and began to order the complex.
