Nuancing the landscape, preserving privacy
Matiz Tucurinca occupies a lot in Cajicá, on the Sabana de Bogotá, a landscape of open meadows and nearby hills north of the city. It is the apartment component of the Tucurinca development, conceived as low-rise multi-family housing that measures itself against the horizon rather than competing with it.
The development resolves a tension inherent to the site: opening to the landscape without losing privacy. A perimeter enclosure and a landscaped setback separate the homes from the street, while each apartment extends into balconies and terraces with planters that carry the surrounding green up to the facade.
The materials combine light-toned brick and white stucco, a calm palette that leaves the color to the vegetation and the light of the Sabana. The development's lighting was worked out as a design chapter of its own, from the apartment to the common areas and the outdoor lighting.
Open to the landscape, keep the intimacy
The starting point was the contradiction in the brief: a development that looks out at the landscape of the Sabana yet protects the private life of each home. The sketch resolved that distance with layers —fence, garden, balcony— that grade the passage from public to intimate, and with a low, stepped massing that never competes with the hills behind. Hence the name: to shade the landscape without giving it up.
