Warm geometry for a duplex on Calle 87
In Bogotá's La Cabrera neighborhood, on Calle 87, this is the kind of commission measured in centimeters: the interior renovation of a duplex apartment, carried out in two stages on the same home. First the complete interior design; years later, the design of the first-floor extension, with 57Uno also acting as the owner's delegated construction manager.
The geometric articulation of the interior reads through its materials: light-wood floors and planes, marble volumes floating above the fireplace's linear flame, a kitchen island sculpted in stone and a stair of timber treads suspended between steel rods. Each level of the duplex has its own study — the client asked for them to be high-tech — and the custom furniture hides the functional: lit shelving, cabinets that conceal the printer, a marble bathroom with a freestanding tub under high windows filled with ferns.
Fire is the project's connecting thread — an interior fireplace with a continuous flame and an outdoor firepit — and sustainability was managed from the construction itself: demolition and building followed a construction and demolition waste (CDW) plan with a documented inventory.
From the client's wishes to the millimetric detail.
The process is written into the commission's documents: client observations from April 2018 ask for «ultra high-tech» studies on both floors, furniture with the printer hidden away, a fireplace without streaks and lit shelving. From there the project moved into BIM models of the apartment and, in the second stage, into construction managed by the studio, with punch lists that go down to the firepit, the fireplace panels and the textured concrete of the entrance: the initial sketch turned into building instructions, piece by piece.
