Historic house intervention for tourism use

San José de Zocotá is the renovation of a country house in Anapoima, Cundinamarca — warm lowlands of palms, bamboo groves and a pond that mirrors the sunset. The brief: adapt it for guest use without losing the ease of a farmhouse.

The design strategy dissolves the boundary between room and garden. Folding timber louvered doors open each bedroom from side to side, so the bed, the built-in daybed and the wooden deck share the same air; light and cross-ventilation flow through the spaces without conventional windows.

Social life moves outside the house: an open-air pavilion — a flat roof on slender steel columns — gathers an open kitchen, a wood-fired oven, a grill and a central fire pit wrapped by a curved stone bench, all set on a floor of local stone. Indoors, pigmented cement tiles, exposed concrete counters and timber joinery keep the palette cool and low-maintenance.

From a commercial proposal to a finished place.

The first sketch

The project began as the "San José Zocotá" proposal and grew through the full arc of a studio commission: early schemes, bioclimatic analysis, SketchUp and Revit models and Lumion visualizations, all the way to the built work. That journey explains the result: decisions about shade, openness and materials were drawn first on paper and then tested against the real climate of the hacienda.
